we are also working on going out on a leash and riding in the car. we want her to be comfortable going for rides and not just to the vet. this has worked well for winnie she will happily hop in the car anytime with no trama. ebony and winnie got baths last weekend. ebony was a bit scared at first then calmed down and was good. winnie decided to shock me. usually it is tough to get her in the tub. first we have to fill the tub when she is out back, bring her in and take her for a short walk out front on the leash and bring her in and straight to the tub. last weekend i filled the tub and got her leash on and she ran straight to the bathroom room pawed the door to get in and walked right over to the tub and looked at me like hurry up. she went right in no fuss or snapping and happily let me give her a bath. she hopped out got dried off and happily got a treat. she is now soft and fluffy and shedding like crazy. once the last of the dreard locks she gets after her bath come out maybe we will try cutting her hair.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-6697948376053625582013-04-29T15:02:00.001-04:002013-04-29T15:02:17.203-04:00A LITTLE BIT EXCITEDlast night winnie finally did the doggy handshake with ebony. yes after over 3 weeks with ebony in the house winnie finally sniffed her butt. this is a giant step in the right direction. this means she is finally accepting that ebony is here to stay and she needs to be friends. now if we can convince ebony to paw the door to go out and not pee on the floor we will have it made.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-19828014791073721942013-04-19T10:10:00.001-04:002013-04-19T10:10:58.320-04:00obsessionchickie has always been obsessed with going outside. it is a constant game of where is chickie quick go outside before she escapes. now leo is obsessed. he tries to claw his way under the door and has escaped 5 or 6 times in the last 2 days. chickie runs out to the grass and munches. leo runs out and ebony tackles him, beats him up and pins him to the ground if he gets outside. at least ebony stops him before he can get outside of the yard. winnie is no help. last night and this morning i put a harness on leo and took him outside. we went over to the grass and he had a snack. hopefully this new urge to escape will wane and we won't have to play the chase the cat game everyday until cold weather returns.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-24314925213829749122013-04-17T10:55:00.000-04:002013-04-17T10:55:28.999-04:002 weeks and alittle barkingebony has been with us for 2 weeks winnie is getting good with her and the cats aren't sure what to make of her. this morning she decided that it is ok to bark. up until now we have only heard a few little yips. this morning we got full out barking. of course hubby worked last night and only got a few hours of sleep and ebony decided this morning to bark. not the soft little yips not just one bark but full out barking. funny part is the bark itself. it is so not the sound you would think this tiny up til now queit puppy would make. no she has a deep loud bark that makes us laugh because it doesn't sound like something so small should be able to make that much noise. winnie and the cats just sat on the floor and stared at ebony bouncing around chasing her tail and barking. then they all left the room. ebony is trying so hard to make friends hopefully one of the other animals will play with her soon.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-64973897027417143002013-04-08T11:27:00.001-04:002013-04-08T11:27:41.285-04:00EBONYwe finally agreed on the name ebony for the puppy. she is such a sweet heart. winnie is still getting used to the puppy and learning to be nice. winnie has nipped her twice once on the ear and once on the tail. sunday went better. i kept ebony on a leash in the kitchen with me while i worked and winnie was in and out all day. both got praise and attention and winnie got carrots when she was good. we are working on reinforcing winnie's training while the puppy is learning which should help as well. little puppy we got a puppy last night. so far the cats are curious and winnie is not. it will take a few days for everyone to acclimate and then the fun will begin. for now we are trying to get to that ornery little dog hubby took winnie with him today to the spca. there were 2 dogs there we wanted to meet and let her meet as well. both were a no go. she did not like the one and barely toterated the other. so we are now thinking puppy. what an ornery dog we have.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-53345052665329251352013-04-01T14:27:00.001-04:002013-04-01T14:27:26.934-04:00sad little winniewinnie is missing her buddy. she sits in the yard staring off in the distance making the occasional bark. she is waiting for gracie. it is so sad. as much as i wanted to wait at first to get another dog it looks like we will keep searching in hopes of finding her a friend. now the trick will be finding a dog that she gets along with and who likes cats. tricky indeed.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-39378092215444764492013-03-29T08:49:00.001-04:002013-03-29T08:49:51.337-04:00frustrationhubby wants to get another dog. he went to the spca near our house and saw 1 dog he really liked. so we got the paperwork we needed and took winnie off to possibly meet a new friend. unfortunately hubby didn't put a hold on the dog and someone adopted her before we got there. we looked at a few dogs but none we liked are good with cats. so we are back to looking. hopefully we will find just the right dog to join out family it just may take few trips to the spcas in the local area and nearby counties. bitter sweet sound of silencethat is what i hear when i enter my house now. bitter sweet silence. winnie was trained as a puppy to not bark when we come in the door. even with gracie around if she was barking it was at gracie not us. as much as the barking could get on your nerves at times the silence that greets me when i walk in the door now takes getting use to again. i have forgotten what it was like before animals. being able to walk in the door with no greeting, barking or tripping. no one demanding attention or food or to go out. i love the greeting i get from the crew now but miss gracie's bark and excitement in some ways. she was a great watch dog. you could not walk or drive by with out her leting you know and if someone pulled in the drive or came to the door well invest in earplugs. winnie barks at the mailman and anyone at the door but she will never be as hyper and aware as gracie was. we miss her dearly.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-76536255933988751662013-03-24T12:24:00.001-04:002013-03-24T12:29:02.114-04:00gracie nothing else is going on. got through christmas and the winter birthdays are almost done now all that is left is toughing it out until the weather warms up. come on spring nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-28055008145207172762012-12-07T14:57:00.000-05:002012-12-07T14:57:05.265-05:00fixedthe local spca did a $15.00 spay or neuter event for cats. i actually heard about it in time to sign leo up. i drove him with me to work and dropped him off and picked him up on the way home. right now he is very laid back and a bit sore. he has stopped chasing the girls and once tigger figures out he is harmless hopefully she will warm up to him a bit more. i am loving going to bed and not hearing pissed off cats hissing and growling at each other and having to get up and move leo. we will see how things go once he has healed completelynancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-42227191785336541382012-11-19T10:11:00.003-05:002012-11-19T10:11:58.717-05:00leo updateso leo is now freely roaming the house, using the litter box and trying to get it on with the other cats. chickie just beats him down and goes her merry way. tigger is having a major prblem with him when he gets in the mood. she just wants to be left alone even with hubby and i she only wants to be touched when she wants it. if you look up aloof cat in the dictionery you will find her picture. so now we spend about an hour or so every night moving leo beause he has tigger pissed and cornered. oh the fun next step getting him fixed soon.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-61047699775548881722012-10-31T13:44:00.000-04:002012-10-31T13:45:26.685-04:00HURRICANE SANDYwell sandy has come and gone. i spent mon and tues at home staying safe and dry. sandy brought swollen rivers, and downed trees but no power outages. i did park my car in the garage for the first time and paniced thinking one of the cats escaped during the storm but everyone is home and ok. there is not even much clan up at my house a few small branches and tons of leaves but that is all.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-13409695234377542922012-10-26T11:34:00.001-04:002012-10-26T11:38:26.253-04:00lost dog centrallast night for the second time this month lost loose dogs have wandered up to our house. there were 2 didn't bark just wandered the driveway smelling our dogs. hubby went outside to see if they had id tags. both did. last time it was a lost dog hotline that called the missing owners. last night it was the owners themselves. they were extremely relieved that we found the dogs and called them. they had been searching for 6 hours and the dogs had decided to go for a nice long walk. they had gone about 6 miles from home. hubby and i waited in the drive until the owners arrived to get the dogs they were so happy and relieved that they were ok and safe. now they just had to get them home and pull off ticks and burrs. between stay cats and lost dogs it has been non stop lately.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-43019354700819188042012-10-19T13:58:00.001-04:002012-10-19T13:58:38.414-04:00leo the lone boy cat in a house full of female animals. i think hubby just wanted to up his numbers since he was the lone guy with all females. now he has a buddy another male who is surviving in a house full of women. other than locking leo up when everyone else eats he is fitting in fine no fights and lots of chasing an cat wrestling. he loves toys with a bell and has gained weight since his arrival. looks like he is a permenent part of the family. wecome to the zoonancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-66443363059196391062012-10-18T13:24:00.002-04:002012-10-18T13:24:39.976-04:00oh my god how did i end up with 4 catsOMG I am becoming the cat lady. somebody help me. hubby found a cat running around near his work. since work is right off the turnpike it is not a good place for a cat to be running around. he talked me into bringing him home until he is claimed or someone takes him. looks more like he is a permanant part of the family now. jack ignores him no suprise there, winnie loves him and follows him around, tigger and chickie were not happy at first but he is so laid back he knows chickie rules the house and tigger is the aloof one. gracie just ignores him. now if we can just convince him he no longer needs to eat any and all food he sees we will be happy.
in other news, well there isn't much. we have been trying for a baby but no luck and last month we didn't even try since we were both feeling horrible with a wicked cold. my work is the same. still looking for another job and hoping when the election is over things will get better. the fall/ thanksgiving/ christmas baking frenzy has begun again. this year i am hoping i actually have some help. this may happen since my niece loves to bake and her mom now lives 5 minutes from me. so M is close by every other weekend and wants to come help.

been a while. not much is going on lately. baking got done early same with shopping. holidays are over and now... well not much. hubby and i still hardly see each other. some days it is only 30 minutes in the morning and 30 before bed but we try to talk and share what is going on and well trying to make a baby. which while fun is frustrating if you work different schedules and have to plan everything.
the furry family is doing well. tigger has a playmate and when there is nothing on TV at least we have catertainment. they wrestle and chase and teach each other how to annoy the dogs and the bird. kiwi does not get out as much since we need to be extra aware of chickie she is fascinated with the bird and teases her and stalks her when she is out. chickie's other new things for 2012 are playing in water and trying to go outside. she even got out last night and winnie chased her to the fence and then into the yard before my hubby caught her and brought her back inside. oh well never a dull moment that is for sure.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-82852581468764362132011-10-12T15:21:00.002-04:002011-10-12T16:00:47.830-04:00SO HOW ARE THE 2 HUMANS IN THE HOUSE OF ANIMALS??we are good. it seems that hubby will be off on wed and thursday all the time and i am off sat and sunday. so we just try to spend as much time as we can together when we are at home in the evenings. i miss having a whole day with him but he is working so i will just deal. the good thing is that now that he is working we are trying for a baby again. at this point we will try for a bit and then decide what step to take from there.
i am gearing up for the fall and christmas baking and christmas shopping. yes i am one of those people who shops early. i have 2 very good reasons for this 1 is that i worked retail for 20 years and never had time to shop after thanksgiving so it is now habit and 2 i hate the mall at christmas. there are too many angry, rotten, tired and nasty people who just make everyone around them miserable to enjoy shopping after thanksgiving. plus i get to spend my weekends happily baking in my pj's while everyone else fights traffic and crowds. after thanksgiving if i need to buy it i better be able to find it online or it doesn't happen.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-62633461483193968622011-10-11T11:50:00.002-04:002011-10-11T12:04:22.299-04:00chickie chickie babyshe is such a handful. she eats everyone's food including mine if we allow her and gets away with it. it is great to be the baby in my house i guess. she has already won over jack and tigger. chickie and tigger chase each other through the house and wrestle at least until tigger has to put chickie in her place since she doesn't understand time out yet. tigger though is thrilled with having a playmate that will run and play with her without pinning her to the floor. jack who has had kittens before mothers chickie and guards her while she is eating so tigger doesn't steall her food it is to cute. both dogs are even good with her but get a bit to aggressive once and a while but mostly because chickie is so bold.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2339733957272659006.post-57521767970658596002011-09-29T11:37:00.002-04:002011-09-29T11:49:36.418-04:00and the winner is...the new kitten. we named her chickie and she is the new queen of the house. winnie who up til now has never willingly let any other pet on the bed with us calmly lets the little stinker up with us and never bothers her. gracie is still in the oh no what did you let in the house now mode but is slowly coming around and jack and tigger have started to play with chickie a bit. vet said she is healthy and gave her shots. we still don't know how old she is but she only weighs a little over 3 pounds right now and has tried to suckle our fingers so we are guess barely weaned. it has definately been one of the weeks when i ask myself how did i end up here but i am loving my life.nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00109856214418972206noreply@blogger.com0
